| We Can't Fire Ferentz As much as we might want to, we can't do it. The man has a contract through 2020 that would cost a fortune to get out of for the Hawkeye Faithful. Here's what we can do! Start expecting more! Since we are fiscally responsible Iowans, we can't give him the Big Pay-Off to get rid of him, but we certainly can and should start demanding we get our money's worth. The last I saw, he is the 6th highest paid coach in the country. So, it stands to reason a Top 10 finish most seasons is a reasonable expectation for such compensation. We are reasonable! Since we forgot to make it known to him that we expect to get what we pay for when he signed his last extension, lets be reasonable and give him until 2014 to show that he will have Iowa a Top 10 team at least 3 out of every 5 seasons and at least in the Top 25 every season , except 1, until his contract is done in 2020. Very reasonable expectations for the way the man is compensated. No more excuses for not putting a better product on the field. There really is no reason not to expect anything less. Iowa is an outstanding university in an outstanding town and the 6th highest paid coach in the country should have the ability to recruit players to such a fine place. He should have the ability to sell them on a world class education and his ability to get them to the next level, if that is what they are seeking. Plus, Iowa is full of a lot of great people that will make you feel welcome and at home not only during your stay at the university, but for the rest of your life. Absolutely no reason why we shouldn't be competing every year with the Ohio States, Michigans, Nebraskas, and yes even the Floridias, Alabamas, and USCs of the football world. We have as much, if not more to offer as any of them! Iowa is not a second class university and when we have the 6th highest paid coach in the country, we should expect to be among the Top 10 football programs in the country. Kirk Ferentz has a contract that demands we expect nothing less! Brooks Key Your opinion welcome: Brooks@IowaGoldPages.com Share with others who might be interested! |
